Shopify Walmart Integration: How to Sell on Walmart Marketplace

How do you integrate Shopify with Walmart Marketplace?

You connect a Shopify store to Walmart Marketplace with an integration app, most commonly Shopify’s own Marketplace Connect app. First, get approved as a Walmart Marketplace seller, which is a separate application to Walmart. Then generate API keys in Walmart’s developer portal and paste them into the app. After that, your Shopify products, inventory and orders sync between the two channels, so you manage Walmart listings and fulfill Walmart orders from your Shopify admin. The integration works on any Shopify plan, including Shopify Plus, but it is only available for the United States marketplace.

This guide covers who can sell on Walmart, the setup steps, what syncs, what Walmart charges and where Shopify Plus helps. At PROSeCommerce, part of PROS Global in San Diego, we set up marketplace channels for Shopify merchants, and these are the checks we run before switching one on. Requirements and fees come from Walmart Marketplace Learn, Walmart’s referral fee page, the Shopify Help Center and the Shopify App Store, checked as of October 2026.

Why sell on Walmart Marketplace from Shopify?

Walmart Marketplace lets third-party sellers list products on Walmart.com next to Walmart’s own inventory. For a Shopify merchant, it is a second storefront with its own shoppers, search results and buy box.

Running it through Shopify keeps one source of truth:

  • One catalog. Product titles, descriptions, images, prices and variants live in Shopify and push to Walmart.
  • One inventory count. When a unit sells on Walmart, Shopify’s stock drops, which lowers the risk of overselling across channels.
  • One order queue. Walmart orders appear in Shopify so your team, your 3PL or your fulfillment apps handle them with the same process as web orders.

The trade-off is control. Walmart decides how listings look, sets performance standards and takes a referral fee on every sale. Treat it as an extra sales channel that has to earn its place, not a replacement for your own store.

Walmart Marketplace seller requirements

Walmart checks your business details, barcodes, catalog and returns setup before you can list.

Walmart approves sellers before they can list anything. According to Walmart Marketplace Learn, signing up is free, and applicants need:

  • a copy of a personal ID;
  • a business tax ID or business license number (a Social Security number is not accepted);
  • the business entity classification;
  • supporting documents that verify the business name and address;
  • a history of marketplace or ecommerce success;
  • products with GTIN/UPC GS1 company prefix numbers;
  • a catalog that complies with Walmart’s Prohibited Products Policy;
  • a B2C US warehouse with returns capability that can meet Walmart’s Seller Performance Standards, or use of Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS).

Two of these trip up Shopify merchants most often. The first is barcodes: products without valid GS1 barcodes cannot be matched or listed, so check your Shopify barcode field before you apply. The second is returns: Walmart expects a US returns address and timely handling, which can be a gap for brands that ship from overseas.

During business verification, Walmart checks your details against federal and state records. Walmart’s guide advises entering your business details exactly as they appear on your documents, because mismatches are a common cause of EIN validation errors and delays.

How to connect Shopify to Walmart, step by step

Shopify’s Marketplace Connect app (formerly Codisto) is built and supported by Shopify. According to the Shopify Help Center, it connects a Shopify store to Amazon, Walmart (United States only), Target Plus (United States only) and eBay, and syncs listings, orders and inventory in your Shopify admin.

Before you install the app

The Shopify Help Center lists these store requirements for Marketplace Connect:

  1. Your online store is live, not in private (password) mode.
  2. A valid payment provider is active in your Shopify admin.
  3. Shipping rates are set up for the countries you sell to.
  4. You have a verified seller account for the marketplace you want to connect.

Connect your Walmart account

The Marketplace Connect help center describes the Walmart connection this way:

  1. Get approved as a Walmart Marketplace seller.
  2. Sign in to the Walmart developer portal, choose Marketplace, and add a new key for a solution provider.
  3. Select Shopify Marketplace Connect as the provider and set the access levels the guide describes.
  4. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret into the Walmart connection screen in Marketplace Connect and connect.
  5. Map your products and start listing.

Prepare products for Walmart

Before you push your catalog, clean up the data Walmart relies on:

  • Barcodes: every variant needs a valid GTIN or UPC.
  • Titles and attributes: Walmart’s categories have required attributes, such as size, color and material. Fill these in with metafields so they map cleanly.
  • Images: use clear product images on a plain background. Check Walmart’s current image rules in Seller Center.
  • Prices: decide whether Walmart prices match your site or include a markup to cover referral fees.
  • Inventory buffer: keep a small stock buffer per channel so a sync delay does not create oversells.

Start with a small group of best sellers, check that orders and tracking flow back correctly, then add the rest of the catalog.

What syncs between Shopify and Walmart

Data Direction What to check
Products and variants Shopify to Walmart Required Walmart attributes, barcodes and category mapping
Prices Shopify to Walmart (optional rules) Price rules if Walmart prices differ from your site
Inventory Shared across channels Buffers and which Shopify locations feed Walmart
Orders Walmart to Shopify Order tags, so your team knows which channel each order came from
Tracking and fulfillment Shopify to Walmart Carrier names and tracking numbers must be valid for Walmart’s performance metrics

Marketplace Connect also supports multi-location fulfillment and bulk listing tools, according to its Shopify App Store listing. Merchant reviews on the same listing are mixed, with some recent reviews reporting sync problems, so test with a small catalog first and monitor listings after every major product update.

What Walmart Marketplace costs

Referral fees apply per sale; fulfillment and app fees depend on how you ship and sync.

Referral fees

Walmart charges no setup or monthly subscription fee. Instead, it deducts a referral fee from each completed sale. According to Walmart’s referral fee page, the fee is a percentage of the total sales price, including shipping, and varies by category. Examples include:

Category Referral fee
Most categories 15%
Consumer electronics 8%
Personal computers 6%
Apparel and accessories 5% (item price $15 or less), 10% (over $15 to $20), 15% (over $20)
Jewelry 20% of the portion up to $250, 5% of the portion over $250

Check the full table on Walmart’s site for your categories before you price, because some categories have tiered rates.

Shopify Marketplace Connect fees

The Marketplace Connect app is free to install. Its Shopify App Store listing says the first 50 marketplace-synced orders each month are free, then a 1% fee applies per additional synced order, capped at $99 a month. Standard Shopify plan fees still apply.

Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS)

WFS is optional. Walmart stores, picks, packs and ships your products. Walmart’s published WFS rates include standard fulfillment fees by shipping weight, such as $3.45 for items up to 1 lb and $5.75 for 4 to 20 lb plus $0.40 per lb above 4 lb, plus monthly storage of $0.75 per cubic foot. Extra charges apply in some cases, for example items priced under $10, apparel and hazardous materials, and storage costs rise for long-term inventory and during October to December. Confirm current rates on Walmart’s WFS pages before you commit.

A simple margin check

For each product, add up the referral fee, any WFS or shipping cost, your Marketplace Connect fee and the cost of returns. If the margin is thin on Walmart, raise the Walmart price slightly, bundle products or keep that item off the channel.

Is Shopify Plus required for Walmart integration?

No. Marketplace Connect works on standard Shopify plans, and Walmart does not ask which Shopify plan you use. Shopify Plus helps when the Walmart channel is part of a larger operation:

  • More locations and automation. Plus merchants often run several warehouses or 3PLs, and Shopify Flow workflows can route marketplace orders, tag them or alert staff.
  • Custom integrations. Large catalogs sometimes need a custom app or middleware that talks to Walmart’s APIs directly, for example to manage pricing rules or complex product data. Plus offers higher API limits and dedicated support for that kind of build.
  • B2B and wholesale. If you also sell wholesale, Plus includes B2B features in the same admin. Our guide to Shopify Plus for B2B merchants explains them.

If you are not sure which plan fits, our Shopify plans comparison and our guide to whether Shopify Plus is worth the extra cost set out the numbers.

Common Walmart integration mistakes

  • Applying before the catalog is ready. Missing barcodes or required attributes slow approval and listing.
  • Syncing every product at once. Start small so mapping errors affect a few listings, not hundreds.
  • No inventory buffer. Shared stock with zero buffer creates oversells when syncs lag.
  • Ignoring performance metrics. Walmart tracks on-time shipping, valid tracking and cancellations. Late or missing tracking can put your account at risk.
  • Copying web prices without checking fees. A 15% referral fee on a low-margin item can turn a sale into a loss.
  • Forgetting returns. Set up a US returns address and a clear process before the first order arrives.
